Saga Communications’ KAFE 104.1 in Bellingham, WA held its inaugural Airwaves for Animals radiothon, partnering with the Whatcom Humane Society to raise funds and support for animals in need.
Aiming to raise $50,000 for the humane society, the radiothon surpassed the goal, collecting $50,640 over two days. The funds will support the organization’s animal food bank, adoption services, and care for domestic, wild, and farm animals across Whatcom County.
The event featured live broadcasts from morning hosts Dave Walker, Allan Fee, and Patrice Valentine alongside afternoon host and KAFE Program Director Scotty VanDryver. Adoption fees were reduced to $10.41, leading to numerous animals finding a new home.
Whatcom Humane Society Executive Director Laura Clark said, “Big and small, everybody, you have made such a profound difference in the lives of the domestic, wild, and farm animals here in Whatcom County.”
KAFE 104.1 Program Director and Afternoon Drive Host Scotty VanDryver commented, “The Whatcom Humane Society has been such a great station partner for over two decades in finding animals their forever home. This event not only gave us an opportunity to showcase the incredible stories of connecting people and animals, but also that they are so much more than an adoption shelter. It was amazing to see the northwest Washington community and our team work together to help improve the lives of animals in our community!”
