Charlottesville, VA — January 15th, 2025 — The Broadcasters for Blood blood drive, organized in collaboration with the American Red Cross in Virginia and The Charlottesville Radio Group, proved to be a major success as it collected 237 units of blood. The event, held Monday, January 13th, was particularly crucial following the cancellation of numerous drives due to the January 6 snowstorm, which had significantly impacted donation efforts in the region.
With the dedicated support of local broadcasters, volunteers, and first-time donors, the event helped address the ongoing shortage of blood supplies in Central Virginia. The day saw remarkable contributions, including a notable achievement from 3WV Morning Show host Tawne Hayes, who was able to donate blood after being deferred for 10 years, and Anand Harsh from 106.1 The Corner, who donated double red blood cells, an especially impactful contribution.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time and blood to make this drive such a success,” said Susan Terwilleger, event co-coordinator from Charlottesville Radio Group. “The support from the community, our local broadcasters, and the American Red Cross volunteers was overwhelming. We helped save lives in our region.”
