NORFOLK, Va. – FM99 (WNOR), part of Saga Communications’ Hampton Roads Media Group, partnered once again with the Coastal Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross for the station’s 39th Annual Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive, helping replenish the region’s blood supply during one of the year’s most critical donation periods.
The three-day community blood drive collected 589 units of blood, successfully meeting the American Red Cross’ donation goal. Because each blood donation can help save multiple lives, this year’s drive has the potential to help save 1,767 lives throughout the community.
Held annually each July, FM99’s Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive comes at a time when blood donations traditionally decline due to summer vacations and seasonal schedules, making community participation especially important. This year, the blood supply is so low that the American Red Cross issued an emergency appeal for donation.
“The generosity of our listeners and clients helps the Red Cross meet the needs of our local community,” said Mike Beck, Director of Content for Hampton Roads Media Group. “We thank everyone who rolled up their sleeves, donated blood, and helped make a lifesaving difference.”
For nearly four decades, FM99 has partnered with the American Red Cross to encourage blood donations and support patients in need across Coastal Virginia. The annual event reflects the station’s ongoing commitment to serving the Hampton Roads community.
