Harrisonburg, VA – Harrisonburg Radio Group’s (HRG) annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society raised $1,822 this year, beating the previous year’s $1,225 donation. HRG designs a new T-Shirt each October that has become a collectable item in the Valley. This year, we went with a black shirt with neon pink lettering and the words “We Fight Together” with the iconic Pink Ribbon on the front.
For a minimum $10 donation, Valley listeners could pick the shirts up at pop-up remotes from supporting businesses like The Cheese Shop in Stuarts Draft, VA, Cox Construction and Plumbing in Waynesboro, VA, Western State Hospital in Staunton, VA, Bellaire at Stone Port in Harrisonburg, VA and Rocking R Ace Hardware in Harrisonburg, VA. We also opened our stations up for listeners to come in and pick one up if they couldn’t make it out to the remotes. With T-Shirts alone, $1,522 was raised for the cause.
Tom Morgan, Program Director for 96.9 WSIG, brought a new addition to the fundraiser for 2023. He and Ivy Lee, cohost of the Real Country Morning Show, accepted a challenge from Avenue Realty to wear a costume each workday through Halloween and in return, they would donate to the American Cancer Society. Soon, 2 more businesses followed suit and an additional $300 was raised.
