FM99 Helped Families in Hampton Roads Have a Happier Holiday

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA – FM99 WNOR helped families in Hampton Roads have a happier holiday, thanks to the generous support of their listeners and sponsors! FM99’s 36th Annual Christmas Wish campaign provided money to these families after receiving letters about their situations from family members or friends. In some cases, the recipient wrote in a letter about their own family and the hardships they faced. Recipients included: a woman recently widowed who has 4 kids; a teacher and mother whose husband was killed by a stray bullet while driving to work; travel money for a woman to drive to Washington state to see her kids for Christmas; a family just getting back on their feet after being evicted; a semi-retired 70-year-old Navy veteran with a special needs son who needed major car repairs; and a family of 5 who needed help after the husband/father had knee surgery and was out of work for a while.

Fundraising for Christmas Wish happens all year long at station-sponsored golf tournaments, disc golf tournaments, restaurants, concerts, and many other events.

FM99 WNOR developed Christmas Wish more than 30 years ago to help our listeners during the holidays. Since then, FM99 Christmas Wish has assisted countless families in Hampton Roads, thanks to the generosity of our listeners and sponsors. Financial assistance is provided for things like food, clothing, and gifts, as well as to pay rent, mortgage, utility, medical, and other bills. In some cases, travel money is provided to reunite loved ones who otherwise couldn’t afford to gather for the holidays.

Radiothon raises over 25K for Childrens Hospital

HARRISONBURG VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The first ever “Valley Cares for Kids Radiothon” raised just over 25-thousand dollars as the 12-hour event ended. According to Erin Chandler with UVA Health Children’s Hospital, the fundraiser surpassed the 25K mark in the final hour, raising $25,613 dollars.

100 percent of the proceeds will go to support programs not billed at the hospital, such as support for parents with food and housing during their child’s stay at the hospital and travel expenses for treatments. The money also helps fund the purchase of much needed equipment.

Chandler said 138 gifts (text, phone, website) were received and averaged $100.92. Chandler added that these numbers are preliminary and said they track donations via text and web overnight and will have a final amount soon.

This is the first Radiothon held by the Harrisonburg Media Group and promoted over its 8 stations.

He and Ivy Lee, cohost of the Real Country Morning Show, accepted a challenge from Avenue Realty to wear a costume each workday through Halloween and in return, they would donate to the American Cancer Society.
