LAZER 103.3’s 9th Annual Costumes for Kids delivers Halloween joy to hundreds of Iowa households

In partnership with Goodwill of Central Iowa and our new costume caravan, vehicle sponsor Iowa Auto Exchange, the LAZER 103.3 team delivered costumes and accessories to Children and Families of Iowa, a local non-profit organization that distributes the costumes to kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one.

LAZER listeners dropped off new and gently used costumes at the LAZER studios throughout the 3-week campaign and helped raise a total of $4,276.24 through cash donations at the radio station and metro Goodwill of Central Iowa locations. Goodwill hosted two “round-up” weekends supported by remote broadcasts – in which every purchase made by Goodwill shoppers could “round up” to the nearest dollar, with all that money going directly to the cause.

Halloween in Des Moines, known as “Beggar’s Night,” is a beloved local tradition where kids and their families celebrate community and giving. Gifting costumes to families in need has not only become a staff favorite for Heather, Wickett, Suzi, Styles, and Samantha, but local TV partners have embraced the campaign as well. Hello Iowa’s Megan Reuther looks forward to the drive every year.

There is no greater joy than seeing a smile on a child’s face. Looking forward to our 10 year anniversary, Heather & Wickett’s Costumes for Kids continues to grow with a passionate response from every member of the community! Heather and Wickett’s Costume of Kids is a proud supporter of Children & Families of Iowa. Children & Families of Iowa is all about restoring hope, building futures, and changing lives for thousands of Iowans every year. Harrisonburg Radio Group organizes HUGE event for local families

Harrisonburg, VA – The Valley Mall has been the go-to place for a safe, and fun place to trick-or-treat for Valley families each October for decades. With a costume contest, dance party, and TONS of candy for trick or treating, parents and kids look forward to this event year after year. 2023 was the second year that Harrisonburg Radio Group and its live and local on-air talent organized and promoted the event as it previously belonged to the iHeart stations across town. Rebranded as “Boo Bash,” this event had the biggest turnout in several years.

LAZER’s annual Costumes for Kids Drive turns in record donation

Des Moines, IA – The goal each year is to get as many kids in need into Halloween costumes as possible. In years past, LAZER’s “Costumes For Kids” campaign has helped to put many smiles on those faces – in 2023, with that need as great as its ever been, there has been an exponential growth in the donation delivery.

Between the generosity of LAZER listeners and our phenomenal partnership with Goodwill of Central Iowa, a total of 506 costumes and accessories were recently delivered to Children & Families of Iowa, a local non-profit organization that distributes costumes to kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one in time for Beggar’s Night festivities.

LAZER collected new and gently used costumes at the station’s studios throughout the 4-week campaign, and were able to raise a grand total of $5,744.36 through cash donations, both at the station, and at metro Goodwill locations. New this year, Goodwill hosted two “round-up” weekends, in which every purchase made by Goodwill shoppers was given the opportunity to “round-up” to the nearest dollar, with all that money going directly to the cause.

With the cash raised, the LAZER staff conducted two shopping trips, which resulted in our record-shattering donation drop at Children & Families of Iowa.

“We’re grateful for all the help we’ve had along the way to make this endeavor a rousing success,” LAZER 103.3 Program Director Andy Hall said. “And we look forward to the day where every kid who wants to go “Trick-Or-Treating” can do it in style, without the worry of financial hardship.”

This was the eighth year of the costume drive. The previous record for money raised was $1,200 in 2022.

LAZER 103.3 collects and donates 500+ Halloween costumes to children across Iowa

LAZER 103.3 Heather & Wickett’s Costumes for Kids campaign was another success in the year 2022. Thanks to LAZER 103.3 listeners, over 500 costumes and accessories were collected and donated to Children & Families of Iowa, where they were distributed to kids within their child development programs across the state of Iowa.

The total would not have been possible without the help of the Costumes for Kids campaign sponsor, Goodwill of Central Iowa.

“Little things become big things. Your kindness could be the first good thing that’s happened to a kid in our community and on behalf of that kid. Thank you!” – Heather

“Costumes for Kids is one of the coolest things we’re lucky to be a part of at LAZER 103.3. Halloween/Beggars’ Night is for the kids, and to see the LAZER family come together and drop off a few bucks or a few costumes to help those kids who may need them is awesome. Thank you so much, IOWA!” – Wickett
